‘Secure Wales’ benefits from the Consortia Development services from the Wales Co-operative Centre

The Secure Wales marketing consortium, a collaboration between six providers of security and fire protection in Wales, has become the latest organisation to benefit from the support services offered by the Wales Co-operative Centre’s Business Succession and Consortia project.

Created to provide help and advice on any aspect of security, from CCTV and dog protection to online and data security in the Cynon Valley, Secure Wales consists of six complimentary businesses; five of these are private sector suppliers and the sixth a social enterprise originally created to reduce the crime in the Cynon valley.

Secure Wales was originally formed as a partnership organisation with support from the Heads of the Valleys Innovation Programme. The Centre was contacted by the members of Secure Wales to help them develop the consortia further and take it to its next stage.

The Wales Co-operative Centre has supported consortia development in a range of business sectors including the arts, energy, food production, farming, scientific analysis and consultancy. In this case, the Centre was able to help the organisation with incorporation into a company limited by guarantee. This enables the member companies to use Secure Wales as the tendering company for commercial and public sector tenders, giving them a scale and range that they could not achieve individually. It will also allow them to jointly procure for goods and services in the future.

Secure Wales is run as a marketing consortium designed to promote each individual companies services but also to offer a comprehensive, tailored range of solutions to clients security needs. They are now in a position to take advantage of the range of benefits available to a marketing consortium, as Vince Price of Secure Wales explains:

“By incorporating Secure Wales into an independent company, we are able to bid for bigger contracts and access better procurement opportunities. We have the benefit of scale across the six organisations which means we can attract and service bigger contracts yet without the risk inherent in doing this with a basic partnership approach”.

Consortia members can benefit from better marketing opportunities, access to better sales channels and savings in IT. Secure Wales’ is a prime example of this, as their marketing is primarily via a website with a sales support function hosted within one of the businesses.
