Wales Co-operative Centre - Values in Practice

Along with many other businesses we refer to ourselves as values-led, but what does that actually mean? It doesn’t mean having a nice sounding list of very worthy values which are developed by the senior management team, appear on corporate literature but have minimal if any impact on how the organisation operates. The Centre works in a sector which is guided by values and principles so for us it’s crucial that we don’t just pay lip service to values but that they really do influence the way we behave and the way we deliver our services. As a result, the Centre’s values and associated behaviours were developed by a cross section of staff who took inspiration from the international co-operative values.

We’re committed to ensuring that these values become embedded in the organisation and underpin the culture that we’re looking to establish. The Centre is about to roll out a programme which includes raising awareness of the values, reviewing our policies and procedures to ensure that they are consistent with our values and asking all staff to feedback on the progress made.  Embedding values will take time but it’s something that we believe will help us become a better organisation, one which is well placed to make it through the next 30 years.
